NorthPeak Software is a European development company building SaaS products and web applications for small and medium-sized businesses. <\/span>Most of its customers are located in Germany and other European markets.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company’s infrastructure supports production applications, databases, staging environments, CI\/CD pipelines, and internal development services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Challenge<\/span><\/h3>\n

As NorthPeak Software’s projects grew, the company encountered a common challenge with public cloud infrastructure: infrastructure spending was increasing faster than actual workload requirements. <\/span>The team needed consistent computing resources, fast NVMe storage, and enough RAM to support several applications and databases. <\/span>Scaling cloud instances, however, resulted in increasingly high monthly bills.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another important requirement was cost predictability. NorthPeak Software wanted to know its infrastructure costs several months in advance instead of continuously adjusting resources and monitoring cloud consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n

Solution<\/span><\/h3>\n

Together with Unihost, the company moved its predictable production workloads to dedicated infrastructure in Europe.<\/span><\/p>\n

NorthPeak Software selected Unihost <\/span>OVE-X4<\/b> dedicated servers, built around the <\/span>AMD Ryzen 9 9900X<\/b> platform.<\/span><\/p>\n

Server configuration included 12 CPU cores by 4.4 GHz, 64 GB DDR5 ECC RAM, 2x 512 GB NVMe drives, and a 1 Gbps unlimited connection. This combination provided high CPU performance for application workloads, fast storage for databases, and sufficient memory to consolidate several services on the same physical server.<\/span><\/p>\n

The servers now host:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Docker-based production applications;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • PostgreSQL databases;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Redis;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • CI\/CD runners;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • monitoring services;<\/span><\/li>\n
  • staging environments.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Rather than completely abandoning the public cloud, NorthPeak Software adopted a hybrid model. Specialized and backup workloads remained in the cloud, while predictable, resource-intensive services were moved to dedicated servers.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Results<\/span><\/h3>\n

    After the migration, infrastructure costs for the company’s core workloads decreased by approximately 35%.<\/span><\/p>\n

    At the same time, NorthPeak Software gained access to more CPU and RAM resources and eliminated much of the variability associated with its previous cloud bill. <\/span>The move also simplified budgeting: the cost of the company’s primary compute infrastructure is now largely fixed from month to month.<\/span><\/p>\n

    \u201cDedicated infrastructure turned out to be a much better fit for our predictable workloads. We gained more resources while reducing our monthly infrastructure costs.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

    What’s next<\/span><\/h3>\n

    NorthPeak Software plans to continue scaling its dedicated infrastructure, with a separate database server and a secondary European location under consideration.<\/span><\/p>\n
