Here&#8217;s how to do it for a single session and permanently.<!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Change the Editor for the Current Session<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Set the EDITOR variable, then open crontab. This lasts until you close the terminal:<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">export EDITOR=nano\r\ncrontab -e<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Replace nano with vim, micro, or the editor of your choice. This is the quickest fix when you just need to edit crontab once.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Change the Editor Permanently<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">To make the change stick across reboots, add the variables to your shell profile. Run:<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">select-editor<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">This shows a numbered menu of installed editors; pick nano and it&#8217;s saved for your user.
