There are two types of SSL certificates: with a domain verification and with an organization verification. Each of them has its own requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

How to get an SSL certificate with a domain verification<\/span><\/h2>\n
    \n
  1. Create a correct CSR request and a private key:<\/span>\n
      \n
    • If you are administering your server yourself, you will need to generate both the private key and a CSR request in accordance to the documentation on the software you are using:<\/span>\n
        \n
      • The information on the nature of the CSR request, as well as on how to create it, can be found in the following articles:\u00a0<\/span>What is the CSR request and how to make one, How to generate a CSR request in Apache\u00a0and\u00a0How to generate a CSR request in cPanel.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
      • If your server is administered by a hosting provider, ask their tech support to generate a private key and a CSR request for you:<\/span>\n
          \n
        • WARNING! Make sure that the requisites, submitted for the CSR request, are yours and not your hosting provider’s.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Save the password you used to generate a private key. Make a backup copy of the key itself on an external drive (flash, cloud or HDD). If you lose your password or the private key, you will not be able to use your SSL certificate.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
        • Make a purchase on the website and submit the payment for it:<\/span>\n
            \n
          1. Choose the\u00a0SSL certificate\u00a0on out website and click\u00a0Get started;<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n
          2. Choose a time period, for which you want to order the certificate;<\/span><\/li>\n
          3. Choose your domain name;<\/span><\/li>\n
          4. Copy the\u00a0CSR-request code;<\/span><\/li>\n
          5. Choose your web-server\u00a0type;<\/span><\/li>\n
          6. After you have been given the final bill, pay it.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
          7. Go through the domain verification:<\/span>\n
              \n
            1. Receive an email to the address you have used in the CSR-request:<\/span>\n
                \n
              • You email address should be on the domain name for which you are getting\u00a0the certificate. If it is example.com, the email address should be i.e. admin@example.com.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
              • Click on the\u00a0verification link in it;<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Click\u00a0Approve<\/em>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
              • Receive the certificate on the same\u00a0e-mail\u00a010-30 minutes later.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

                How to get an SSL certificate with an organization verification<\/span><\/h2>\n

                Make sure that your organization’s information is available via the common databases, for example the Yellow Pages. If it is not, or the information is not current, make sure you fix this before applying for the certificate. The lack of information or the incorrect information can and will result in either a very long verification process or an outright refusal to issue the certificate.<\/span><\/p>\n

                  \n
                1. Generate a CSR request using your organization’s requisites. If the certification center cannot confirm the existence of your organization using the register of Legal Entities, you also need to prepare the following documents:<\/span>\n
                    \n
                  1. A digital copy (a photo or a scan) of the certificate of registration of your legal entity in the unified state register of legal entities;<\/span><\/li>\n
                  2. A digital copy\u00a0of the certificate of registration of your legal entity registered with the territorial tax authority;<\/span><\/li>\n
                  3. A digital copy\u00a0of the document, which confirms the presence of a contact phone number. This can be your phone bill or any legal agreement that is signed by both you and the phone company:<\/span>\n
                      \n
                    1. Make sure that you highlight your phone number on the document. This phone number will be used for the verification call;<\/span><\/li>\n
                    2. If you cannot submit such a document, register in any common database, for example Yellow Pages;<\/span><\/li>\n
                    3. If you are getting a Thawte certificate, you can also submit a legally signed statement\u00a0that guarantees someone a right to submit the application for the SSL certificate. Then this person’s phone number can be used for the verification;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                    4. Make a purchase on the website and submit the payment for it:<\/span>\n
                        \n
                      1. Choose the\u00a0SSL certificate\u00a0on out website and click\u00a0Get started;<\/em><\/span><\/li>\n
                      2. Choose a time period, for which you want to order the certificate;<\/span><\/li>\n
                      3. Choose your domain name;<\/span><\/li>\n
                      4. Copy the\u00a0CSR-request code;<\/span><\/li>\n
                      5. Choose your web-server\u00a0type;<\/span><\/li>\n

                              • If you are only a middle man in this process, you will be asked to present a signed legal statement that guarantees you the rights to act as a legal representative of the domain owner.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
                              • Receive the certificate to the email specified in the CSR in 24 hours after the verification.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
