Instead, it uses JSON-like documents with dynamic schemas. Unlike relational <a href=\"https:\/\/unihost.com\/en\/dedicated\/database-hosting\/\">databases<\/a>, MongoDB does not require a predefined schema before adding data to the database. You can change the schema at any time and as often as needed, without having to set up a new database with the updated schema.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><!--more--><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">In this article, we provide you with a quick guide to installing and testing the mongodb daemon using the example of Centos7 OS with <em>sudo -s<\/em> superuser rights activated in advance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Adding an up-to-date MongoDB repository<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">First of all, add the mongodb-org repository to the server, for this, in any editor convenient for you, create a file:<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">nano \/etc\/yum.repos.d\/mongodb-org.repo<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">with the following content:<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">[mongodb-org-4.4]<\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">name = MongoDB Repository<\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">baseurl = https: \/\/repo.mongodb.org\/yum\/redhat\/$releasever\/mongodb-org\/4.4\/x86_64\/<\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">gpgcheck = 1<\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">enabled = 1<\/span><br \/><br \/><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">gpgkey = https: \/\/www.mongodb.org\/static\/pgp\/server-4.4.asc<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">After that we apply the updates:<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">yum update<\/span><\/pre>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Installing MongoDB<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Now we can install mongodb using the previously added repository:<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">yum install mongodb-org<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">After that, you can start the MongoDB service with the following command:<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">systemctl start mongod<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The systemctl utility produces no output after the start command, but we can verify that the service is running by looking at the end of the mongod.log file with the tail command:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9176\" src=\"https:\/\/unihost.com\/help\/minio.php?.\/AV_180820_-vfSzgkz_AV_180820.png\" alt=\"How To Install MongoDB - Image 1\" width=\"561\" height=\"86\" \/ title=\"How To Install MongoDB - Image 1\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">As a result, we can see that the server is waiting for a connection, which means that the MongoDB service has started successfully and we can access the database server using the MongoDB Shell:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-9178 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/unihost.com\/help\/minio.php?.\/mongo2.png\" alt=\"How To Install MongoDB - Image 2\" width=\"300\" height=\"75\" \/ title=\"How To Install MongoDB - Image 2\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; font-family: Ubuntu, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">MongoDB is a multi-threaded application. It can launch additional processes to handle its workload. The warning states that for MongoDB to be as efficient as possible, the number of processes it is allowed to run should be half the number of files it can open at any given time.
